The years from birth to age six are known to be critical in the development of a child's capabilities, personality and brain development. Ashalim's early childhood programs place special emphasis on helping very young vulnerable children and their caregivers to ensure that these formative years are positive ones.
Ashalim's tools and programs for Israel's youngest children at risk aim to:
- Address early identification and treatment of developmental delays,
- Help professionals and parents promote timely acquisition of essential skills, and
- Upgrade foster services for those very young children removed from their homes.
The Israeli Government has launched a new national early childhood initiative in 2008 called New Beginnings, which is investing significant resources to upgrade early childhood services in Israel's most disadvantaged cities.
JDC-Israel is taking a lead role in coordinating the work of the many New Beginnings program partners, and JDC- Ashalim's experience with the ECHAD and PACT comprehensive early childhood initiatives will aid in this effort.
